turntable
There was no wye in Katy's North Yard in Wichita Falls, Texas so in the late seventies when the tri-weekly train from Fort Worth was headed by a single GP40 or GP38-2 (as was frequently the case) this rickety-looking turntable was employed. Until we saw it in use we didn't know this -- we thought the turntable to be a non-working relic of earlier days at North Yard.

The day we did happen to see its use; the locomotive slowly inched onto it making a loud bang as the structure rocked under the 130-ton weight. Sometime in the late '80s, it was moved to Fort Worth by the Fort Worth & Western. It now sits across the street from their station at the Fort Worth Stockyards.
